description: "For Canadian developers weighing OVHcloud AI Endpoints (open models served from France) against Augure (Canadian jurisdiction and tiers). Switch guide inside."
competitor: "OVHcloud AI Endpoints"
vendor: "OVHcloud"
category: "cloud"
canonical: "https://augureai.ca/compare/ovhcloud-ai-endpoints"
updated: "2026-10-27"
summary: "OVHcloud AI Endpoints is a cheap, OpenAI-compatible catalogue of open-weight models that OVHcloud says is hosted and run in the European Union; Augure is a Canadian company whose API stores data in Canada, offers Canada-only model tiers, bills in CAD and ships a finished bilingual chat product."
faqs:
  - q: "Does OVHcloud AI Endpoints run inference in Canada?"
    a: "Not per OVHcloud's published pages as of October 2026. The Canadian product page says AI Endpoints services are hosted and run in the European Union, the capabilities guide names Gravelines, France, and the regions page lists AI Endpoints under Europe only. OVHcloud's Beauharnois (Montreal) region is listed for compute, storage and databases, not for AI Endpoints."
  - q: "Is Augure cheaper than OVHcloud AI Endpoints?"
    a: "No. OVHcloud's catalogue lists gpt-oss-120b at EUR 0.08 input and EUR 0.40 output per million tokens, and Qwen3.8-27B at EUR 0.40 and EUR 2.70. Augure's cheapest tier, tofino-3, is CAD 0.60 input and CAD 2.00 output. You pay Augure for Canadian storage, Canadian inference tiers and Quebec French, not for the lowest token price."
  - q: "How hard is it to switch from OVHcloud AI Endpoints to Augure?"
    a: "Both APIs follow the OpenAI chat completions format, so the change is the base URL, the key and the model id. Point the OpenAI SDK at https://api.augureai.ca/v1, use an Augure key, and map each OVHcloud model id to an Augure tier. Re-check max_tokens, reasoning_effort and rate limits, then run both in parallel for a week."

# Augure vs OVHcloud AI Endpoints: EU open models or Canadian tiers

OVHcloud AI Endpoints is a pay-per-token catalogue of open-weight models behind an OpenAI-compatible API, run by a French cloud provider. Augure is a Canadian AI platform: an OpenAI-compatible API plus a chat product, with customer data stored in Canada and model tiers that run in Canada. The biggest difference is where inference happens and under whose jurisdiction: OVHcloud says AI Endpoints is hosted and run in the European Union, while Augure runs on Canadian infrastructure and vetted EU partners and offers Canada-only accounts. Read this if you are a Canadian developer or privacy officer weighing an EU-hosted open-model API against a Canadian one. Neither company has a US parent.

## At a glance

| | Augure | OVHcloud AI Endpoints |
|---|---|---|
| Company and jurisdiction | Canadian company, no US parent or investors. | French company founded in 1999, per its about page; over 46 data centres on four continents. |
| Where customer data is stored | Canada. | OVHcloud says it does not store user data for AI Endpoints and keeps only what billing needs, per its product page and guide. |
| Where inference runs | Canadian infrastructure (Ontario) and vetted EU partners under zero-data-retention; never US providers. | "Hosted and run in the European Union" per the Canadian product page; infrastructure "located in Gravelines, France" per the capabilities guide, as of October 2026. |
| Your data used for training | Never. | "Your data is never used to train our models," per the product page. |
| Canadian residency option | Storage always in Canada. Accounts can be set Canada-only: requests then stay in Canada or fail with `503 residency_unavailable`, never served elsewhere. tofino-3 and the Augure Open models never leave Canada. | None published for AI Endpoints as of October 2026. OVHcloud's Montreal (BHS) region is listed for compute, storage and databases, and the regions page does not list AI Endpoints under North America. |
| API | OpenAI-compatible, https://api.augureai.ca/v1 | OpenAI-compatible, https://oai.endpoints.kepler.ai.cloud.ovh.net/v1, per the catalogue. |
| Models | ossington-5 (256K), rosedale-1 (up to 1M), tofino-3, Augure Open (GLM-5.3, Qwen3.8-Flash-Next) | More than 20 open-weight models per the product page, including Qwen3.8-27B, Qwen3.5-397B-A17B, gpt-oss-120b, gpt-oss-20b, Llama 3.3 70B and Qwen2.5-VL-72B. |
| Published certifications | SOC 2 and ISO 27001 in progress (readiness underway with Vanta, per https://augureai.ca/security). TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest. | ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and HDS (French health data), per the product page. |
| Rate limits | 60 requests per minute on the default key tier, 20 in flight per key; higher tiers on request. | 400 requests per minute per Public Cloud project and per model with an access key, per the capabilities guide. |
| Images and PDFs | Images on any model via `auto`; PDFs as `file` parts on every model. | Vision models in the catalogue (for example Qwen2.5-VL-72B); 10 MB payload cap for visual models. |
| Languages | English and Quebec French natively. | Model-dependent; no language positioning published for the service. |
| Billing currency | CAD. | EUR on the Canadian catalogue page as of October 2026. |
| Best fit | Canadian organisations that need Canadian storage, Canada-only inference and a finished chat product. | Developers who want the cheapest open-weight tokens from a European provider and can accept EU inference. |

## Where OVHcloud AI Endpoints wins

- Price. The catalogue lists gpt-oss-20b at EUR 0.04 input and EUR 0.15 output per million tokens, gpt-oss-120b at EUR 0.08 and EUR 0.40, and Llama 3.3 70B at EUR 0.67 both ways. Batch mode (beta) is billed at half the base rate. Augure's lowest tier is CAD 0.60 and CAD 2.00.
- Model choice. You pick named open-weight models (Qwen, gpt-oss, Llama, Mistral) and can move the same weights to your own hardware; OVHcloud calls this reversibility. Augure Open offers two open models; the Ossington, Rosedale and Tofino tiers are Augure's own.
- European posture. OVHcloud says the service is hosted and run in the EU and that "data is hosted in Europe, and is protected against non-European regulations" (press release, 29 April 2025). For EU customers or EU-facing work, that is the stronger fit.
- Published certifications. ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II and HDS are stated on the product page, with a 99.5% SLA on base mode.
- Scale of the catalogue beyond text: the capabilities guide lists audio analysis, embeddings, translation, image generation and computer vision alongside LLMs, and there is a free playground with no sign-up.

## Where Augure wins

- Canadian jurisdiction and storage. Customer data is stored in Canada, and customer conversations, documents and AI inference are never handled by US-jurisdiction providers, so the CLOUD Act's reach over US-controlled providers does not extend to customer content. Limited US processing exists for payment card networks and email delivery only, as documented in the privacy policy.
- Canadian inference tiers. rosedale-1 runs on Canadian inference (Ontario), and tofino-3 and the Augure Open models never leave Canada. Canada-only accounts fail with `503 residency_unavailable` rather than being served elsewhere. Every response says where it ran in `_augure.inference_region`.
- Quebec French. English and Quebec French are native across the platform, and ossington-4-1 is positioned for bilingual (EN/FR) work.
- A finished product, not only an API. Augure Chat, the desktop app, Knowledge and Oshan ship on the same models, with plans from C$0 to C$80 per month and Enterprise with SSO.
- Long context and document handling. rosedale-1 accepts up to 1M tokens; PDFs up to 25 MB and 200 pages are read on the gateway with OCR fallback.

## Switch from OVHcloud AI Endpoints to Augure

Both APIs accept the OpenAI chat completions request format, so the migration is configuration, not a rewrite.

1. Create a key at https://augureai.ca/developers. It starts with `aug_sk_live_` and is shown once.
2. Change the base URL to `https://api.augureai.ca/v1` and the key to your Augure key.
3. Map model ids.

| OVHcloud model | Augure model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| `gpt-oss-120b` | `ossington-5` | Reasoning tier, 256K context, 32,768 output; `reasoning_effort: "none"` for fast mechanical tasks. |
| `gpt-oss-20b` | `tofino-3` | Fast, thinking off, served in Canada with no failover outside Canada. |
| `Qwen3.8-27B` | `open-qwen-3.8-flash-next` | Same model family, open weights, hosted in Canada, text only. |
| `Qwen3.5-397B-A17B` | `open-glm-5-3` or `rosedale-1` | Large reasoning model; rosedale-1 adds up to 1M context on Canadian inference. |
| `Meta-Llama-3_3-70B-Instruct` | `ossington-5` | General analysis and code; `auto` if you want the gateway to choose. |
| `Qwen2.5-VL-72B-Instruct` | `auto` with `image_url` parts | Image inputs are routed to Augure's vision engine in Canada. |

4. Before and after in Python:

```python
import os
from openai import OpenAI
# Before: OVHcloud AI Endpoints
client = OpenAI(
    base_url="https://oai.endpoints.kepler.ai.cloud.ovh.net/v1",
    api_key=os.environ["OVH_AI_ENDPOINTS_ACCESS_TOKEN"],
)
resp = client.chat.completions.create(
    model="gpt-oss-120b",
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Summarise this contract in two lines."}],
)
print(resp.choices[0].message.content)
# After: Augure
client = OpenAI(
    base_url="https://api.augureai.ca/v1",
    api_key=os.environ["AUGURE_API_KEY"],
)
resp = client.chat.completions.create(
    model="ossington-5",
    messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Summarise this contract in two lines."}],
)
print(resp.choices[0].message.content)
print(resp.model_extra["_augure"]["inference_region"])
```

5. Re-check these settings:
   - `max_tokens`: Augure caps output at 32,768 tokens (16,384 on tofino-3). Omit it on reasoning models, or thinking can crowd out the answer.
   - `reasoning_effort`: `"none"` turns thinking off on ossington-5; rosedale-1 serves `"none"` as `"low"`; the Augure Open models want `max_tokens` omitted or at least 1,024.
   - `response_format`: `json_object` and `json_schema` are accepted; on reasoning models validate the result and retry once.
   - Tool calling and streaming work with the OpenAI schema. Pin `rosedale-1` for agent loops.
   - Rate limits: 60 requests per minute and 20 in flight per key by default, and a daily spend cap of CAD 100 (CAD 25 until the first successful charge). OVHcloud's documented limit is 400 per minute per project and model, so lower your concurrency or ask Augure for a higher tier.
   - Payload: Augure accepts 35 MB request bodies; OVHcloud's guide lists 2 MB (10 MB for visual models).
6. Run both providers in parallel for a week, compare outputs and `inference_region`, then cut over.

The question is not whose data centres are better. It is where the model runs and who is accountable for the data.

## Keep OVHcloud AI Endpoints if

- Your work is for EU customers or under EU rules and EU inference is the point.
- Token price dominates and you do not need Canadian storage or Canada-only inference.
- You want a specific named open-weight model (for example Llama 3.3 70B or gpt-oss) that Augure does not serve.
- You need audio, embeddings, image generation or computer-vision endpoints from the same catalogue today.
