Use Augure with Cline

Run the Cline VS Code agent on Augure's Canadian, OpenAI-compatible API using the OpenAI Compatible provider and a custom base URL.

Updated 2026-10-26 · Configuration shown as documented by the tool; not yet verified end to end by Augure. · Markdown version

You get Cline's autonomous coding agent in VS Code running on Augure models through its OpenAI Compatible provider, with inference on Canadian infrastructure.

Prerequisites

Configure

Cline is configured in its settings panel (the gear icon in the Cline sidebar), not in a file.

  1. Set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible.
  2. Fill in the three fields:
Base URL: https://api.augureai.ca/v1
API Key: aug_sk_live_...
Model ID: rosedale-1
  1. Open the model configuration (advanced) section and set the model's limits so Cline manages context correctly:
    • Supports images: on (for ossington-5 and rosedale-1; off for Augure Open models, which are text only)
    • Context window: 256000 for ossington-5 or tofino-3; 1000000 for rosedale-1 on a paid plan
    • Max output tokens: 32768 for ossington-5, 16384 for tofino-3
  2. Save. If your Cline version has separate Plan and Act mode settings, configure both with the same provider; you can give Plan mode ossington-5 and Act mode rosedale-1.

Leave the Azure toggle and custom headers unset.

Pick a model

Model When to use
ossington-5 Flagship reasoning. 256K context, 32,768 max output. Planning and hard changes.
rosedale-1 Premium reasoning, up to 1M context on paid plans, Canadian inference. Recommended for Cline's tool loops and large repos.
tofino-3 Fast everyday model, 256K context, 16,384 max output, no thinking. Quick questions; not suited to long agent loops.

auto is also valid as the Model ID and lets the gateway pick. On ossington-5, reasoning_effort: "none" turns thinking off; Cline's OpenAI Compatible provider may expose a reasoning effort setting depending on version. If you do not see it, pick tofino-3 when you want no thinking. Full list: /docs/models.

Verify it works

Start a task in Cline such as "read package.json and tell me what this project does". A streamed reply that reads the file confirms tool calling is working. For the residency check, call the API once from a terminal:

curl -s https://api.augureai.ca/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AUGURE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"model":"tofino-3","max_tokens":64,"messages":[{"role":"user","content":"Reply with the single word OK."}]}'

The JSON ends with an _augure block, for example "_augure": {"gateway_region": "ca-montreal-1", "inference_region": "ca-on-toronto", "request_id": "..."}. inference_region tells you where the model ran. Inference is on Canadian infrastructure first, with disclosed failover to vetted EU partners under zero data retention, never the US.

Notes

  • Cline sends a long system prompt and runs many tool calls per task. Use a reasoning model (rosedale-1 or ossington-5); tofino-3 is fast but weaker at multi-step tool loops.
  • Cline streams every response; Augure supports stream: true and returns usage in the final chunk, which Cline uses for its cost display.
  • The field labels above match Cline's settings at the time of writing. If a label differs in your version, the values are the same: base URL, key, model id.
  • OpenAI model aliases (gpt-4o to ossington-4, gpt-4o-mini to tofino-3) are accepted but give you less control than an explicit Augure id.
